Suicide Bombing in Taksim Square
At 10.40 this morning, a suicide bombing attack caused the injury of at least 32 people near the mobile police station located very close to the statue of Atatürk in the center of Taksim Square. Some civilians were injured as well as 15 policemen during the attack which resulted in the death of the suicide bomber. More people would have been injured or dead if the attack had not been performed at an early time of the day since Taksim Square is the meeting place of locals and tourists especially on Sundays.
Today is the expiration day of a ceasefire with the PKK (The Kurdistan Workers’ Party). It is also an important day because the Republic Day Celebrations and parade were postponed to be scheduled for today due to heavy rain on the 29th October.
